If there is any hendrix tone I love, its definitely his later live stuff (68-70). I'm talking RAH, La Forum, Berkeley, San Diego Pop, etc.

Now what is the general consensis (as I've been going back and forth).. is the superlead the way to go for that live hendrix tone, or is it the super bass.. cleaners with more bottom end.

imo, I think its the superbass.. but I wanna hear yours and why.

Of course its extremely hard to say as hendrix used multiple plexis at a time, so perhaps he used both together to create his sound.

what do you guys think?

All of my research leads me to super leads. I've never seen a proclaimed hendrix amp that was a super bass, but that could just be me.

Those shows you mentioned, I have no idea, but I do know that his woodstock amps were SLs and I'm pretty sure the guys interest in BOG agree that his BOG amps were SLs too.

With that said, it's highly likely that at some points he used a super basses here and there, he used all sorts of amps, but I do believe he mostly used SLs.

yea that is all super lead. Works great for my Hendrix tone

lately i've been hearing more super bass clips that do the hendrix tone better then most of the superlead clips I've heard.

It depends on what vintage Superlead do you mean as they are a bit different circuits. The Hendrix amp (Dickinson) is quite near early Superlead which is very near Superbass. Later Superleads are more different.

did anyone build an amp with the lead/bass specs with some switchs ? pictures would be great !

The best all round approach to this is to go with a super lead type amp

say a reissue & reverse the v1 setup to a shared cathode
If you wanted you could put the change on a switch to hear the difference

you could also remove the bright cap on the main volume

For Strat Players that setup would be a good compromise
as the shared cathode would tame some of the shrillness of a later super lead circuit

essentailly this is the same concept as the 70's lead and bass 50 heads
& I have always liked this setup for bright guitars

IMO with such a setup you are close enough to the tone & the rest is up to ones playing

25w celestion speakers or M75 (I like M's more than H's with a strat and 1959 for JH)

Well, dont discount the fact that Hendrix was a fuzz tone fanatic. Im pretty sure most everything that we know of by Jimi had a pedal in front of the amp, so trying to define his sound without talking about some sort of pedal is really half the equation.

Having had both SuperLead and SuperBass amps, and currently having a Lead/Bass Spec, I cant see how someone could possibly go wrong with a Bass-Spec and a good fuzz... it'll have all that juice in the bottom end, and then just dial in the needed amount of grind and top end scream from the fuzz.

That would seem to be an especially good recipe for the Fillmore B.O.G. tones.

Not myself, but there are all the schematics you would need in the Technical Reference section at the bottom of the forum home page, under "Marshall Schematics".

But when you mean "lead/bass spec" is it the 2061 or a hybrid lead/bass?

Mine is a 50 watt plexi lead/bass, built to '70-'71 metal front specs.
