My custom black strat project

Post by harkkam08 » Fri Apr 08, 2011 11:03 pm

Hey guys I built this from various parts ordered from musikraft (neck) and warmoth body. I was trying to create jimi's black strat and even though its not 100% accurate Im happy and most of all she plays like a dream and its the best neck that I have ever played on. Its amazing and sounds very good. Custom shop pickups 69's.

Reverse headstock for right hand player with reverse angled bridge pickup. Hehe :)

Sweet, I'm trying to get a Musikraft neck for my Olympic White Tokai Strat. Still deciding on the specs.

What kind of finish did you get on your neck?

Nice work.
How much did the final cost average?

One question though.
Why the neck from musikraft and not warmoth? Just looking for good advice on my new project :)

Warmoth doesn't do the exact specs for a Hendrix strat neck. They do make the maple cap neck, but you can't have a maple cap neck with a CBS style headstock for some reason. And from what I've seen, Musikraft is much more exact.

This is one of the many things I'd like to do, but I'm going to go all out and make it lefty and string it righty.
~Current Amps~
1. 1963 Sano Supersonic
2. 1990s Fender Dual Showman
3.JTM45/100 Build

~Future Amps~
1. 69 Superlead
2. Lots of Metropoulos amps

Looks awesome bro.

I just got a musikraft neck, and I am very impressed with it. Equal or better than warmoth IMO

It was shellac I believe, the basic covering. No nitro or poly. I love not having those two finishes on it, its so smooth and fast.

Yeah warmoth doesnt make the neck with exact specs that I needed. Musikraft IMO had the best selection for what I was looking for.

Price it came to about 1000.00 total.

360 for the neck with extra work and tuners installed
300 for the body and custom pickguard with extra light alder body.
340 for shipping taxes, pickups, strings, tremelo, knobs etc.

really? you find it better without Nitro. I thought everyone was loving the nitro finish?

What I feel is that nitro and poly are a bit sticky and when I am sliding especially parts of my skin will slow down and just mess up my timing. With this shellac its so smooth its almost bare and my hands really just glides on the wood and feels like nothing is there.

Yeah that's a big benefit I hear people who relic their guitars get. They wear the the finish on the back of the neck down to the wood and you're hand slides like nothing across it.

Although I've never really had a prob with it myself, I have that going on my hendrix relic strat.
