Right but what if you play with a jimi style.. the same neck may be crucial to achieving nuances of that certain neck, which i think is part of the tone/playing equation.MacGaden wrote:+1 But remember: You´ll be playing it. I play with the thumb over the top method.. my hards are not nearly as big as jimi's. but they're not small, thats for sure. what do you guys think?

Of course the neck is a part of the playing. I think the thumb over playing is actually a good way to play, honestly. I've been doing it for awhile. It works great for a lot of blues stuff, and it also is fantastic for jazz chords.
If you want to get closer to a CBS strat, or Jimi specifically, a 7.25 radius neck medium C on a strat is a very good start. Along with an Alder body, that's also very key.

The 7.25" correct radius is the way to go, Ritchie Blackmore and Yngwie stuck with this and I much prefer it to the bland 9.25" size which Fender made the empirical decision that everyone wants that on their Custom Shop relics, or period correct guitars.
To give an example one of the reasons I quickly sold my otherwise perfect 2005 Fender YJM Strat is that with the scalloping and a 9.25" radius, is simply what Yngwie did not use on the original Duck and I found it immensely hard to correctly intonate first position chords with the flatter radius and extreme scallops, just my opinion.

I like the 7.25 radius and the 9.5 radius on my Stratocasters.
