Hard to figure out Hendrix tones...

Post by parkhead » Sun Aug 21, 2011 9:43 pm

I need to add a wah pedal to my gigging pedal board & did not want to hack up any of my vintage crybaby's
with a bypass mod or power supply connector ... so I went out and found a used Dunlop GCB 95
with the express intent of modding the crap out of it using all the mods & schematics on the net

I also made use of the some of the Ideas seen in the Roger Mayer modded Fuzz faces, specifically that he seems to set
them up to have a greater signal swing than stock... ie they operate above unity gain and push the amp harder almost like a layer of clean boost is added to the signal

with this in mind I looked at all the suggested tweaks and worked out how to get the transistors working a little harder

I was a little surprised at the result & think that some of you pursuing some of those extra "mid thick" strat tones we hear
after 68 might want to look at the wah instead of the amp ..

the strat has low output Klein epic 55 pickups 5.4k neck 5.6 middle 5.7 bridge
the amp is a Traynor 18 watt YGM3 on 1

apologies for the sound clip playing

we all know that for the BOG shows Hendrix used his better pedals ... since he had Generic ones for live shows since they were often stolen right from the stage.
Knowing he was recording the shows I recall reading Roger Mayer? or someone else noted that the "good" ie modded and custom pedals were used for those shows.

p
replica ?? I don't need no stinking replica ...

Excellent video. I have a friend's Cry Baby to do a true bypass mod and will be using the circuit mod from your vid as well. The OD250/MXR vids were cool too! Thanks for posting.
