I heard myself that little wing was recorded on a Leslie amp. But I don't know anything about leslie amps.Xplorer wrote:nice. Then would we consider that little wing and castle made of sand may be a blackflag at a clean level ? or something else ?

Re: post your jimi specs
thanks. that's maybe because indeed, for the effect part there was a leslie cab ... added i think, to what seems to be a sound city 105L that i'm gonna build so i'll tell you ^^.
Castle made of sand and some other "clean" tones from Axis sound close to each other to my ears.
This might be what i'm looking for, along with the different JTM45/100.

Re: post your jimi specs
There is a Sound City mk1 100W at the EMP Museum in Seattlle that looks like the one I have seen in pictures it has Noel Reddings name on it I always thought he used a Leslie for Little wingRoe wrote:the old story, which still seems plausible, is that Axis was a sound city mk1 100w for clean tones and a marshall for dirty tones. so, no blackflag at clean level noXplorer wrote:nice. Re: post your jimi specs
oh, there must be a room i didn't see when i went to the EMP .. there was no amps at all in the one i saw. all the giant EMP ( mainly for hendrix ) , for a little room, wih the white strat, some others, some clothes ..
for sure, he used a leslie , but to my ears, he idn't use it in the intro, only at the end of the intro. if i compare some other "cleans" from the axis album, they're very close to little wing's tone i think. i love the MKI theory, and this is what lead me to build one. Castle made of sand and one rainy wish also would be the mkI then.
btw, are the partridges transformers the same as on the later MKIII sound city ? i think it's TG5479 ( G7650 ) and TC7084 ( G7651 )

I can second that i have been there and seen the amp and it has EL34's. His white start was there when i was and it looked like 10-38's and the pickups were set high. I took pictures of the strat but cant seem to post them here my pixels are to wideyladrd61 wrote:One of Jimi's '69 Super Leads from Woodstock is at the EMP also it definitely has EL34's in it

Re: post your jimi specs
The White Strat is no longer there, they have the Fender JH Lefty Strung Righty one there now, and his Vox King Wah, Octavia, and Uni Vibe are still there. Also FYI they will be having an additional Hendrix Exhibit there in November to celebrate Jimi's 70th birthdayTone seaker wrote:I can second that i have been there and seen the amp and it has EL34's. Re: post your jimi specs
actualy it's even worse ...
these strings, lefty, aren't original ...
cause the damn guy from fender who had it in hands just CUT the strings !!! when it was about doing replicas.
cutting the strings so it was more simple to remove the strings rather than taking the time to unattach them.
This stupid bastard said in his interview that he put them to the trash and was sorry for his money loss, thinking that he could have resold the "woodstock" strings .... ( but they certainly were replaced by hendrix at some point, between 69 and 70 .... )

Roe wrote:post jimi specs that work for you. I'll start with a 12000 series superlead.
Filtering:
screens 16 or 32
phase inverter 32 or 64
v1a 820ohm, not 2.7k like the alu amps. this is important with strat, less so with LP.
3H choke, not 5h or 8h
NFB: 47k
tubes
v2: use a real mullard
RFT el34s
watch the preamp voltages so they are not too high. Get a PT that sags, not the 450ma stuff, but something that is historically correct like a marstran.I like around 480v on the plates for jimi
My amp right now has split cathode with 2k7/0.68 on V1b, no cap on V2 and 100n PI coupling caps.
Filtering is 50uf mains and screen and 64uf PI. Preamp is 32+32.
I'm gonna try with 820/0.68 on V1b and PI filtering @ 32uf for now then I'll also try with a 0.68 cap on V2 and I'll change screen filtering later.
What bright cap do you use, Roe ? I have a 5n on now.
