Presence Resistor?

Post by Dax » Wed Sep 22, 2004 1:02 am

Does anyone know if this resistor is supposed to be on the presence pot of a 1976 Model 1987? I've seen some pics on the net and didn't see it.

Earlier presence controls didn't have a resistor there, but later ones did -- should be a 4.7Kohm resistor, but I can't make out the color code very well from your pic to verify that.
Most presence controls use the .1uF cap, but there were apparently some in the early seventies that used a .68uF, supposedly a fave of George Lynch.

Does the resistor change the tone?

from my experience, when you take that 4.7k resistor out, you lose alot of the low end in the amp. i take it out sometimes when recording guitar solos.
