I'm using Genalex Gold Lions.
The GEC KT66 datasheet shows max plate and screen voltage to be 500 and absolute max 550. I'll keep investigating this.
Is this Mordor glow on my KT66s normal?

the russian RI changed specs to:ezietsman wrote:I'm using Genalex Gold Lions.

plate 500v
screens 400v
The change was made after they had problems with the first run.

Re: Is this Mordor glow on my KT66s normal?
It is possible that I'm not going to get this working correctly without getting a new PT or having more zeners in there than I can shake a stick at. I'm going to up my screen stoppers so that I have a 1k coming from the screen supply that connects to the sockets. Then I'll have more current limiting than a JTM45 but it may still not be enough, given my high voltages. I think doing that will increase my current limiting by a factor of 3. I must just keep the screen dissipation under about 3W.
If this doesn't work then I'll get a new OT and use EL34s.

If you use 500v caps, then you shouldn't have a b+ above 460-465v anyway imho

Re: Is this Mordor glow on my KT66s normal?
OK, the glowing is a lot less with the 1k flying resistor but still there. Amp still sounds the same as far as I can tell. The voltage drop over the 1k on the sockets at idle is less than 1V yet they still glow dull red (at idle).
There's a TopJimi video on youtube where they are profiling a 100 watt with KT66 and that one does the same thing as mine does now, just a slight glow while playing.

vids.
