I think we should have a PPIMV naming contest........someone put up a poll with all the suggested names.

alpha works fine for this - save your money. ;) this is the Master Type 2 by Ken Fisher. only difference is the 250klin instead of a 100klin and Larry's Resistor mod.

Heres a clip I did at literaly whisper volumes using shielded PPIV MV with 470k resistors.

This is a one channel tweaked plexi spec I did, everything on 10 with the variac bringing the B+ down to 398-400v. Cab is Bogner basketweave 412 with GH30s and guitar is my 68 LP Custom.

Both clips sounds great. Now you only need to find out how to keep the prescence control working...

I don't understand. Why do you think the presence control is not working??

rtcook - these kind of masters ( post phase inverter masters in general) mess with the neg feedback circuit. the first indication of this is the presense knob has barely any effect at all when turned from 0 to 10. part of why people dont this kind of master is that when installed there is next to no neg feedback going on. and the whole idea with neg feedback is the more there is of it the more smoothing. with PPIMV's its almost none exsistant. the amp can be kind bright and ice picky if you will.

neg feedback, taken from the 4,8, or 16 out tap is injected back into the circuit at 180 degees out of phase. what this does is cancel out ocilations or as mentioned before , smooth things out. the more neg feed back the more smoothing.
16 ohm tap more smooth, 4 ohm tap less smooth.
as well as the feedback resistor.
smaller feedback resistor (27k)more feedback. bigger resistor,(100k) less feedback.

not to say you want the most feedback, some may prefer more or less, but as with anything its finding the perfect balance for what u want to hear.
one of the problems with PPIMV's is you really have no control of neg feed back.

hope that made sense for you.

You can turn the presence into a "cut" stlye control ala Vox, Matchless and others. It works regardless of negative feedback, so works with PPIMV's.
