Speaker break in info

Post by VelvetGeorge » Sat May 01, 2004 6:00 pm

Here's a link to some great info on breaking in speakers.

http://www.unclespot.com/C10Q.html

I have a new basket weave replica cab on the way, and some G12H's waiting to go in it. I intend to try this break in method. I'll let you know my results.

The voltage calculator at the bottom of the page is really cool. Break out your variacs........

I don't know much about acetone, but wouldn't it eat into the paper cone material? I'm afraid to try it!

I'm going to break in those G12H's with the variac, but I'm not doing the acetone trick. That stuff eats superglue! Just seems like a bad idea IMO.

It might make your speakers sound a little better, but how long would they last?

Especially if you are running just a half stack! Pushing those speakers to the edge even after variac'in them might be costly somehow...

BTW this "Uncle Spot" dude is in Modesto California, which is about 1-1 1/2 hours from where I am from in Fresno California, which is where I came from when I relocated to Michigan a year ago. I went to his site, and he has a pic of Coco Montoya's amp that he built on there. I've met Coco Montoya on several occasions and he's really big on the Fresno and San Joaquin(pronounced San Wa Keen) Valley music scene.

Just some FYI.

BTW, I noticed the only parts he carries are Fender amp parts. This is why Detroit rockers know how to rock more than most Cali boyz(excluding myself). We know here in Detroit that Marshall is THE ONLY AMP FOR ROCK N ROLL! THERE IS NONE OTHER!!!
