Heyboer vs Wallace output transformer on bluesbreaker

Post by McGoogle McDougal » Tue May 25, 2004 10:45 pm

I'm going to be installing one of George's board kits in my Bluesbreaker reissue as soon as they're ready and was thinking that would be an ideal time to upgrade my output transformer too. I was originally going to go with either OEI or Mergury Magnetics, but have been hearing good things about the Wallace jtm45 style transformers (both the sound and the price).

Now I hear George has got Heyboer's for the jtm45 kits and I am wondering how they compare to the Wallace ones. I'm wondering if there is a big difference, such as one is punchier or one has more sag. I'd like some sag (if I wanted pure punch I'd use a regular 50 or 100), but the sound clips on the Wallace page seem to have more sag than I'd like (but I'm sure there's more than the transformer responsible for that).

Anyone have experience with either or both of these sets (in a jtm45 or bluesbreaker) and care to comment on it's effect on the sound/feel? :?:
