Thanks alot man , i cant get enough of this amp . I have 2 friends of mine that really want me to build them one now lol.
Lets call it the chameleon mod , still though inspired by marks awesome soundings mods i have to give him credit . Im sure the gurus here are laughing at such an easy mod but what can you do , sometimes simple sounds good !!!!!

Hey univalve, nice sounding amp!

Is there a benefit or an overal reason why you used 500K pots instead of the normal 1MEG audio pots for your gain and volume controls?

I know Bogner uses them and well as Soldano in these positition.

A quick clip of the amp I was working on before this thread started, but none the less inspired from listening to clips. It is a 50watter that is switchable from Plexi/JCM800/AFD/Modern. This is just 3 gain stages with a footswitchable boost. Clips of the other modes are in my youtube channel.

they use the 500 k and also dont go straight to ground. this is an area I havent seen discussed yet. lots of tone and gain shaping here.

I used 500k pots cause it sounded smoother and a bit darker too. I know the tonestack gets affected by that too but i just used my ear. The amp just sounded better. I even tried 250k for gain so feel free to experiment , im sure different amps call for different values to get the best results!!

Used as a variable resistor? I use that for some cathode bypass shaping. Do you have an example you can share Jerry?

I had the bogner and the only difference I've seen is the 470k/470pf is after the gain pot, in the soldano what I remember was 470k/.0022 before the gain pot and 470k grid input after (of course)

Earlier in this thread there is a picture with a cap across the output coupling caps...how would you calculate the rolloff?

a cap across a cap. ? prob just trying to get the correct voltage ? ? I know dave likes lower voltage mylar caps, I think mylar as his preamp coupling caps. Little green guys have a nice crunch to em. Sure it wasnt something like that. They are really low voltage and some guys use em ain series to get the correct voltage. in parralel its just double the value if I remember correctly . provided they were the same. Just add them up.

I'm talking about the junction where the PI coupling caps meet the bias grid resistors before heading to the (typically orange/green) output tube grids. I saw what looked like a cap...maybe a silver mica??

yeah the 47pf was double up? makes sense some guys like a 100pf 2 times 47 is almost up there.
