What's so special and different about laydown power transformers? I'm going to be ordering a Metro amp before too long, and I'm wondering if I want a laydown transformer or the standard transformer.

Also, how do the transformers effect your sound/tone?

Thanks for helping me out, guys!

What effect does the Heyboer and MM output trannies have on your sound?

Hope you guys can help me out with this stuff. I know what tones I like, but I just don't know diddly about electronics.

Spanks!!!

Hey Edwardz, I've got to leave for the gig (I'm on my sixth one in a row) but I'll post in detail later tonight or tomorrow.

I personally have the MM in the output section of my amp (still need the Heyboer in the PT), and it sounds great for a real crunchy 70's rock sound. I know Jon (flemingras) has Heyboer in both the PT and OT sections of his amps. I believe that the Heyboer OT's do have a bit more headroom than the MM, which seem to compress a tad. It's all a matter of personal taste though. It would be cool if we could have sound clips on the MetroAMP site to show players the differences.... :!:

Hey, George! I really want to get this transformer bizness sorted out. Right now I'm leaning towards Heyboers for both, but I'd like to know more about what PTs and OTs do before I order my 100 watter. I'm pretty sure that's going to happen next week as soon as I get some money from an ebayer in CA that bought my Super "reissue".

I also want more info on laydown transformers. What's the big deal?

Read your interview on Six String Soul. I was 6th row center at an ABB show in Columbus a few years back. My God! Warren and Dickey both have tones to die for! That's why I'm having a hard time deciding on V30s (Warren) and JBL-type (Dickey). Right now I'm leaning towards V30s. They just seem more modern and pretty versatile. May by one type now and decide to try the other type later. We'll see...

Thanks!!! :D

Edwardz, I'm really sorry I haven't posted at length. This week and last week have been nuts for me.

In short, both brands are top notch.

If you want the EVH, more compressed with more grind tone. Go with the MM O100JM.

If you prefer the ABB, ZZ Top, Free type of tone with more headroom and less grind. Go with the Heyboer.

I'll try to post more as soon as I can.

Cool. Which one makes the biggest difference, the OT or PT?

Thanks!
