Help Me Add Some Character to a Sovtek Mig 100

Post by Ronniejackjones » Thu May 28, 2020 10:00 pm

Hi Folks:
Posting in the hope that someone can help clear a few things up for me. To begin, these amps (I have two) have already had some extensive work, including a PPIMV on one. Anyhow, they sound pretty damn good, but I think I can push them further. The Mig 30 has an underpowered transformer-this gives it a certain sag, or weightiness, that mine doesn't have. Hard to put into words, but it just tucks under better. Been reading a bit about b+ winding, and what can a transformer can do in the way of shaping the sound, but I'm still pretty green to this end. Any help as to what compatible transformers I'd do well to check out, and anything else (chokes, tubes, etc), would help a great deal.
