My powerbrake started cutting out and crackling. Anyone have a Powerbrake take a shit? That could be transformer hell if it went out while playing.

I never have myself. But which part of it started smoking? It could very well be just a board component or one of the resistors mounted on the seperator plate inside. Check it out.

Nothing smoked, it was just cutting out like a bad cable would. I unplugged and used all cables straight, and they are alright.

The first thing I do to every PB that makes it's way to my bench is warm up and add a little solder to all of the connections on the PC board. Especially the jacks and switch. Then check the cap in the fan supply circuit, they tend to fail.

I've also seem the zener diode fail. And once, one of the big power resistors that mount on the aluminum plate.

I have heard of the powerbreak melting due to poor design. If I were to use one on my baby it would be a Thd hotplate from what I read. how true is the melting thing? something about a board getting really hot because of it being mounted in a "bad" place.

F'in A man! I think you need to build a Fleming Brake.

And I will, but before I do, I wanna buy the patents to George's mod so that I can incorporate that as stock equipment. 8)
