Scumback recones now available...$99 each

Post by Scumback Speakers » Wed Jul 20, 2011 12:16 pm

Since taking over production of Scumbacks I've made a considerable
investment in recone parts (Kurt Mueller cones, spiders, dust caps, etc)
and voice coils for all of the Scumback models, as well as sourcing the
correct parts for the Celestion line of 12" speakers.

So I'm now able to offer rebuilding of your G12M/G12H30 frames to
Scumback specs. Included in this will be my new BlackBack recreations of
the mid to late 70's G12M & G12H30's in both 75hz (1777 cone) and 55hz
(444) versions.

I've just recently rebuilt a few clients speakers with the M75 & M55 specs and I
received this email from one yesterday.

"Hi Jim,

I sent the mates to the 2 speakers you just reworked. They are frigging
amazing. Nice job my friend.

Once again I want these reworked as labeled. One as the M75 25 watt and
the other as the M55 25 watt.

I will also contact you about ordering a couple of other speakers.

Thanks for you dedication to tone.

Doug"

This client just got one of my 1x12 cabs with an M75-8 ohm 65w about a
month back, which drove him to getting his old speakers rebuilt as well.
Apparently he thought the rebuilt speakers he sent were good enough to
write me the email above, and send two more to be rebuilt as well.

I feel this email pretty much answers the question of whether the new production
team here in California can improve on my previous suppliers
work. I'm offering a 1 year warranty on the rebuild/recones. The FBI
service is free on recones (if you want it) and rebuilds.

The improved cosmetics and improved build quality and reliability are the
same as what the new production speakers will offer next month.

The price for the rebuild of your old frame is $99 plus shipping.

The only frames I'm rebuilding are G12M and G12H30 model Celestion
frames (vintage/current production). I cannot rebuild G12M-70 frames as
they use a 1.5" voice coil, and I'm only rebuilding the 1.75" voice coil
based speakers.

You will have a choice of the low power 25/30w coils to match vintage
specs, or the 65/100w models, 8 or 16 ohm only.

Here's a pic of what a rebuilt speaker looks like when finished, which now
has the improved smooth and dry correct doping with uniform thickness.

Turnaround time is about 1 week after receiving your old frame. I do not
have the recones on the site yet, so you'll have to email me about them
at: sales@scumbackspeakers.com

Just put "Scumback Recone" in the subject line when you send your email, please.

If you have any questions, just email me, and I'll get back to you.

Great news Jim! I have two pre rola speakers I would like to send for reconing. One looks like it was reconed fifteen years ago and is now dead, the other has the original cone, but with sevaral ugly repairs. It sounds OK but has a little static and less power than normal functioning cones. Do you asses the condition of the cones before taring into them? I'm just wondering if the voice coil can be salvaged from the pre rola cone or if that is pointless.

Usually if the cone has rips/tears that have been repaired, and sounds funny, there's no point in trying to repair it again. Since the voice coil is permanently glued into the spider & cone, it's tough to try and save it, especially if it's been overheated. If a client had a bad voice coil, but the cone was still good, I'd refer them to Chris ****** to save the speaker (if possible).

I had two dead pre-rola g12T frames re-done to m75-16 25w specks. No gloppy dope here, really nice clean work. I'm sending two more when I get the chance.

Glad to hear they got there in one piece, and that the recone workmanship is up to snuff. But shouldn't you be installing and flogging them instead of typing?
