It was the soldering job, I also replaced the capacitors with Orange Drop 716. I first removed the phase inverter capacitors and most of the problem was gone. I figured, might as well change all the capacitors on the board.

Orange Drop. It really sounds like a plexi know, especially with the Scumback M75's.

I grounded the power board to the phase inverter ground lug. Yah, SDM is very cool so is Mr. TS, both are valuable to this forum. BTW have you tried the G12m 25 watt greenbacks? Do they sound like the Scumback M75 or are they a different animal.

oh cool- thanks axe!

are you talking about the new reissue g12m's ?

if so, yes i've had those. 16 and 8 ohm versions. they are a little bright for me.....i'm hoping after they're wailed upon for a while that might mellow a bit. not sure if they will.??
they seem punchy too......i mean in a good way. i don't think they're "bad" spkrs. at all....just not my first pick. i think they are very diff. from the m75's.

actually, what i ended up doing with them was i mixed a pair of the g12m's w/
a pair of weber 50w silver bells in a 4x12. VERY cool combo. the silver bells have big low end and smooth highs....so that sorta counter balances the g12
brightness.

those SB's are awesome, man. you wail a 1959 thru them and the low end stays
tight! no mudiness whatsoever!! highs stay smooth. VERY loud. killer speakers!
i also have a quad of them w/ alnico magnets. some of my favs.

I'm talking about (love) these lol. http://metroamp.com/store/index.php?mai ... cts_id=178" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . Do you recommend them for the Van Halen sound?

Thanks

ok, yeah....those are the ones..... g12m

haha....metro calls them 'punchy' too. love the revised website....great navigation. real nice.

man, i don't want to steer you wrong or anything, art. just me--- but i wouldn't
go w/ the new g12m's.....for the VH thing. the scumbacks will stomp all over
the new celestions.
