12.000 Finished!!

Post by Sral68 » Thu Apr 23, 2009 1:57 pm

Looking forward to buliding and playing the amp.

I've had Super Lead amps before. Still have a basketweave cab from the early seventees with greenbacks in it.

Edited the title of the tread again :D

They usually send a tracking number when it ships. Email fido and ask when they plan to ship. I've usually gotten my stuff within a week .

Thanks for the great pics :D ! I got a message that my package was sent from the US a couple of days ago. Really looking forward to this.

I've been in Jmp-1 hell for a some years now. Played Super Leads but got tired of them blowing up all the time. Still miss the tone and fell of a proper amplifier. I got really fired up for this project after I played a friends SL with ptp wiering and fresh cans. Further down the road I'll look into the possibility of slaving the amp.

+1 -- post a pic now and again. Especially if you are uncertain about something.
Best to get it fixed as you go, and not have to tear it all apart just to get back to
that one little detail. SDM needs to exercise his eyes once and awhile!

I see that there are no tube rerainers in the kit. Also the the pics on plexireplicas.com show no tube retainers. Can't seem to remember that I ever had them in my old amps. Is this a good upgrade? Dont think that I'll be playing the amp standing on my head.

The amp on plexireplicas.com have the resistrors to ground on the v4 to v7 omitted. Does anyone know the purpose of this?

From studying pics of old amps, and the one on plexireplicas.com, it sees that the wires going to the stanby switch and power switch aren,t twisted. What should I go for here?

Forgot to post pics yesterday. Will try again this evening.

Having fun so far :D

Best to go by the instructions...

to ground...you talking about 5.6K swamp resistors?

Wires...when it doubt, I twist. LOL

As far as tube retainers, I never use em. It ain't a combo, so I don't sweat it.
I never use Preamp tube shields either. THis for my production amps as well.

Good

On the output valve bases there are resistors between pin 4 and 6 (1k 5watt) which are used on all original 100watt Marshalls these are to go in series with the screen supply to pin 4 (pin 6 is just a convenient mounting point as it is unused on an EL34.
There are 5k6 resistors on pin 5 (in series with the bias feeds from the bias splitters, 220k in a v shape on the board) these are to prevent parasitic oscillation all amps later than 71 had these (ealier ones had 1k5 on the outer valves only, again using the pins on the inner pairs of valves as mounting points which is why they span the valves v4-v5 and v6-v7)
The other resistors are a modern addition to help bias with a DVM they are 1ohm, 1% resistors beteen the joined pins 8 and 1 and earth.

Follow the instructions and all will be well 8)
