Please guide me along my 12xxx project
Hi Everyone,
I was hoping that many of you could perhaps look over my work and give me some feedback, perhaps check if there are any mistakes. This is a huge learning curve for me, so all your help is appreciated.
I am stumbling along, trying to build the '68 using the '69 instructions that came with the kit while referring to the pictorial journals of leleduke and rmsurve.
I have the PT heater wires and the center tap connected. Is the soldering okay?
Also, there isn't a black ground lug on the cap can. Does that mean I won't have to install a buss wire from the ground lug?
Thanks for all your help.

Can't help you on the cap but the heater wires need to be re-done.
You don't want any bare wire between the lug and the insulation.
Just melt the solder and push the wire in a little more.
Then re-solder it by adding just a little solder to freshen up the solder joint.
Then clip the extra wire sticking out the other side of the lug flush with the lug.
You want a nice smooth shiny solder joint when done.
Anything dull, crusty or lumpy is not a good joint.

Thanks Structo! I've done as you've indicated. There seems to be little room around the other pins in V7. will that be a problem? Is it okay if the heater wires float above the pins, above the chassis?
Thanks

V7 will be crowded down the road. I made the heater wire to pin7 (both of the heater wires, when I think of it) close to the chassis.
And for the cap can; red is hot and the one without color is ground. You ground it to the lug towards the back of the chassis.

Hi!
You can follow the 100 watter instructions for the heaterwire conenctions. In contains god pictures of how its supposed to look. The biggest differens in the 12000 is the power section.

Thanks for all your help and comments. I now have a list of sites with photos as reference for my build.
Here's are some more pictures documenting my progress. Again, any comments will be appreciated. Did I make any mistakes?
Question: the insulation for the buss wire from one of the speaker jacks to the impedance selector has threaded lining inside. Am I suppose to remove that and use the black insulation only?
Thanks!

Here's a problem: the Standby Switch takes too much space. I can't get the power switch and the Standby switch to both sit flush against the front panel. Any thoughts?

Are they the rocker type switches?
Again, a picture would help.

Re: Please guide me along my 12xxx project
Several people have had that problem. A lot of people got round it by installing the two switches at the same time, tightening each one a little at a time.
Others have had to do a little gentle filing. If resorting to filing though, I'd prefer to do a little bit on both switch holes, so as not to have much difference lining up with the screen printing on the panel.

So I like purple, okay!!!!!!

That's what I've done. They are now secure on the panel - not exactly flush, but fairly close. I can tighten them some more later on.demonufo wrote:Several people have had that problem.
