questions about recording clips
Hello everyone . I have no experience with any kind of recording at all and am wondering if there is an economical way of recording clips of my amp. i thought it would be a great way to compare componets,tubes cabinets ect. But have no idea even wher to start . As always any imput is appreciated. Thanks Clint

Well first of all, you have to have some kind of microphone. The Shure SM57 is a popular choice and you can't really go wrong with that. Then you need an usb interface. I'd recommend some form of the M-Audio fast track because with those you get a cool limited edition of pro tools, a professional recording software. That setup would be pretty cool plug and play type, and doesn't cost you a fortune either.

I have a mic. not a Sure but i think its comparable. Think it will work I used to use it to mic my amp through pa. Can you tell me more about the M audio fast track ; how it works and where to get one ,ect . thanks again Clint

Well you basically plug your mic into it and then plug your computer to the unit via usb cable.
Then you open pro tools and hit rec. Fast tracks are pretty common, your local music store should have them.

Sounds pretty simple. Im looking into one already. Thanks again for the info . Is this how you record your clips? They sound real good if memory serves me correctly...

I usually record through an SM57 to our bands mixer and from there to my computer. The fast track probably actually is better than a regular mixer for this kind of stuff.
