Is there more than one way to set presence cap

Post by bobtec » Fri Aug 23, 2013 11:43 pm

I do not know how to say this my 94 SLP`100 watt presence cap goes on to the middle lug and right lug to ground, but on the Metro Build it just goes from the middle lug to ground,Why is it different? or is it? :what:

What pot do you have 5k or 25k
Do you have a 4k7 resistor in parallel?
Which cap, 0.1uF or 0.68uF?

Like this:http://www.webphix.com/schematic%20heav ... w_1959.pdf
odd one:http://www.drtube.com/schematics/marshall/1959mk2u.gif
or this:http://www.webphix.com/schematic%20heav ... w_1992.pdf

Normal plexi is the lower one, 5k pot, 0.1uF cap on centre lug (wiper) of the pot to ground with the lug nearest the switches grounded. Presence purple wire from PI to the lug nearest other pots.

The 25k pot has the 4k7 in parallel (stops the scratchy sound by decreasing DC across the pot and the cap goes between the ground lug and the bus rail.

According to my notes you should have this:http://www.drtube.com/schematics/marshall/1959spwm.gif

Neil.... Mine is the 1959spwn.....but the one leg has the "purple wire, and the Cap sits on both of the other legs..What I wanted to know can I also do it like the Metroboard Kit layout is is..I wanted to put one of the 100nf mustards you gave me,but it wont fit the way the MKT cap sits on top of the two legs..

Yes you can use that method, the cap is there as a bypass of certain frequencies.

what is going on in the presence circuit here? it looks odd with a 5 kpot and a 4.7k resistor..
