Where to buy a variac?

Post by Jerry G » Sat Aug 28, 2010 11:23 am

It looks like I should have one of these, does anybody know the best place to buy one from?

And if so, which one?

Thanks,

Jerry G

This is by no means an endorsement, but here is one:

http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/T ... 10-/72-110" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can definitely find them cheaper, probably with lower amperage rating and no ammeter. I bought an NOS General Radio raw-frame variac from a guy off usenet years ago for $40 and built my own chassis for it.

Maybe somebody on here has a lead on some others..

Dave
guess you only get one chance in life to play a song that goes like this.....

Yes, thanks again for the info, I would have no trouble buying used.

I use one of these for 50 and 100W amps.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Metered-Variac-Var- ... 588871a86a" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can also get a 20A version if you feel the 5A one is too small.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Metered-Variac-Vari ... 588697df3e" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Of course there are a ton of used ones as well.

Thanks, that seems right in my ballpark, I would assume all I need is the 5 amp.
