Confussion about SLPri schematic
My 93 SLP 100w ri capsC-15 and C-16 are parallel C-17 and C18 are too.then they go into C-4and C-5 also parallel..How do you add them up are they all parralel series. Am I making since You need to look at a older schematic the one with Out a FX loop.I want to use this thread for more questions in the future,I think I am "almost ready" to change out some caps...I just dont want to burn the trace's or make it more hissy, when I put it back....

Re: Confussion about SLPri schematic
I could not find your exact schematic. However, paralleled capacitors equivalent capacitance is the sum of both capacitors (or all paralleled capacitors). Cequ = C1 + C2 + C3....
In series, the equivalent capacitance is the reciprocal of the sum of each of the reciprocals of each capacitor (like adding paralleled resistors). 1/Cequ = (1/C1) + (1/C2) + (1/C3)...
So generally when you see the two caps in series the capacitance is lowered, but the voltage handling is increased. When you see caps in parallel the capacitance is increased, no change in voltage handling. I think this arrangement was done to provide adequate power supply filtering for the really high voltages in the SLP, as economically as possible.

Re: Confussion about SLPri schematic
what if I pulled both bright caps and pulled c4 and c5 and c16 and c17 and only had one cap for each insted of two would it be more like a regular plexi tone

Re: Confussion about SLPri schematic
Apparantly they tried to dupe a good sounding one, the parralell caps were to used to match its measured values. C15/16 equals .0027 coupler, C17/18 equals 5n7 very bright cap, C4/5 equal 590p mixer cap. Im going through one now too.

Re: Confussion about SLPri schematic
I have been in Tahoe for a few weeks...Would pulling out C17,C18 and just use one 005 insted be OK,or only have one 560 Mixer cap and not two, built up,I got some Lemcos But since its a PCB I don't want keep pulling in and out caps and burn any trase's...PS Neil you already gave me some .022uf and .1uf must'd caps thanks alot...My 100wri is now almost 20 yrs old Feb 1993,I think the first early ones they made sound better than later yr with the FX loops.....ezs wrote:Apparantly they tried to dupe a good sounding one, the parralell caps were to used to match its measured values. Re: Confussion about SLPri schematic
I'd leave the amp alone and save the lemcos for a build.
