Mixer capacitor?

Post by revolver1 » Tue Sep 05, 2017 1:56 pm

I would like to have a 560pf / 556pf cap at the mixer on a Superbass build but I can't find one for love nor money.

Is it possible to use a 470pf and doubble up as in, solder in parallelle a 100pf cap to give 570pf?

They are nos silver mica so I'm hoping to hide the 100pf underneath the 470pf .

Sure...that will work. These smaller value caps can be hard to get an accurate reading on with a mm. Mine always seems to read these mica caps 50-100pf higher than stated. I need to invest in a more accurate meter for testing the lower value caps.

That's good news!

I've got the caps put aside, haven't even tested them yet. I have a 270pf for the tone stack so fingers crossed 570pf or there abouts on the mixer should be a good fit.

270pF works well.
I presume you are using 470k mixers?
I like 500pF mixer best :hide:

8) OK, that's interesting. I've been lucky enough to have scored some 500pf lemco's that may be worth experimenting with.

I am open to a bit of experimentation with this amp. I was originally thinking of doing a full West Coast modded Superlead with this one but I talked myself out of it because of the difficulty getting the output tubes and also the speaker load required.

I'm pretty much thinking now to do the 45/100 circuit but with EL34's and tighter 68 filtering. I may go with a little more on the screens and P.I. but I'm open to a bit of experimentation since I've never done a bass amp with shared cathode.

I had read a post and neikeel had said how he liked the 270pf in the tone stack so when i came accross the part i snapped it up.

I was thinking of 270k mixers but could change to 470k, just thought I'd try something different since I'll have a 1987, 1959 and a 2203 with the 500pf/470k mixer set up and I want to run two amps in tandem.
