ORIGINAL Drake PT 1202 118

Post by SpaceCharge » Mon Dec 31, 2018 9:49 am

Greetings,

I am new to the forum, and would like to extend a respectful greeting to the Members of the Forum.

I'm a Retired Tech, and have been professionally trained. I'm Also a Journeyman Electrical Maintenance Tech. 40yrs.

I WAS doing a scratch build Plexi Sleeper in an 18w small box cab & chassis. (TMB).

My Dear Wife has requested that I NOT build another LOUD amp. (She remembers my Marshall MAJOR!)

So I'm gonna build an EL84 18w with a 50w Plexi Preamp. (I know about the voltage differences)

Now here's the main issue:

I have an ORIGINAL DRAKE 1202 118 Power Transformer! NOT appropriate for an 18w build.

It's from my '68 50w I had in the 80's. (I had a spare parts one.)

It's been Hi-Pot tested, "Dim Bulb" tested, brought up with a Variac, and all voltages are OK. A WINNER!

It was from a USA only, and all the primary taps were cut except 120v.

I think SELL IT to someone that NEEDS an ORIGINAL PT! Gotta be RARE these days. Laydown '67-'69...

Since I've been lurking here for years, and HIGHLY RESPECT the membership,

I'd kindly appreciate comments on WHAT TO DO with this Good '68 Drake 1202 118? Value? :what:

Respectfully, SpaceCharge.

Hello, welcome to the forum. You could try posting a "for sale ad" in the "member classified" section here. You may also do the same over at the "Marshallforum.com" as they have quite a bit more traffic over their lately. Other than that, Ebay may be your best bet if you have an account. Good luck with the sale!

Thank you for your reply,

I had an old timer at the local motor repair shop take a look at it yesterday, He agreed it tested good, and he replaced the cut off leads for the multi-voltage taps with the CORRECT wire. (They HAD it?) He said that way if someone had one with the voltage selector switch they could hook it up instead of it "Bein' Hokey". I agreed. I know him from my years of work in Electrical Maintenance. He plays a MEAN Blues with an ES125 P90 & a Deluxe Reverb, and he KNEW what I was talking about. He said I reminded him of his "Ol' JTM45". I could have fainted on the spot...

I guess I'll put it on Ebay, and maybe get enough for 18 watt iron. This old Drake iron has gotta be kinda scarce.

It looks so cool now I hate part with it, I've had it for 30 years. I wish I still had the Plexi it was a spare for, or the OT!

Thank you so kindly for your reply.
