How To Add A Voltage Selector

Post by mAx___ » Mon Feb 04, 2019 1:10 pm

Hi,

I'd like to add a voltage selector to my 110v amp so I can use it in Europe too.
Ideally I'd like a voltage selector for 110v, 220v and 240v.

I couldn't find any instructions on how to do this in the Valvestorm kits.
Any help/schematics/pictures would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
M.

You can only add a voltage selector if the power transformer in your amp has the proper taps for the other voltages. Not all models will come with a power transformer that has the proper taps to allow for other input voltages. You will need to check the PT for any unused taps that may be taped up or covered in heatshrink.

Thanks danman. My PT has extra taps for 100v, 220v, 230v and 240v.
Where would be a good place to position the selector? I would have to route a new hole on the chassis.

I would place the selector on the back personally. To easy to accidentally switch it to the wrong voltage if it's on the front. If you don't plan on using the selector often, you could just open the amp and make the necessary connections when you need to change the voltage. It's a bit of a hassle but if you only need to do it occasionally it wouldn't be too bad.

I agree.
Get the correct Marshall type that uses a coin to switch.
Hole on the back and use a greenlee punch (iirc 29mm - but check first!!)
