If I got a 1200 I suppose the only way to make the amp give up the brown tone at reasonable club levels is to use an attenuator. I have a Phantom coming in a week or so ..that should do the attenuation trick but I imagine the only way to get the brown tone is to basically dime everything. Isn't that really bad for the tubes to run it like that all the time?

What do you Guys do?

Using the stock Metro 12 series with the virtual variac and PPIMV you can get the brown sound at 8 on the dial with the rest of the EQ to taste.

No need to dime everything.

8 on the preamp dial and then roll the master to whatever level right?

I have #12052 and use it with a matching Metro 4X12 slant with the english 20w greenbacks and a Alex Attenuator and it screams with my LP. Best tone and the most fun I have ever had playing...I have owned about everthing out there....dumble, boogie 2C+, soldano, real 50w plexi, real 59 bassman, real 58 bandmaster, on & on and the 12000 series is to me the BEST tone ever. I can dial in Cream era "wheels" tone in the #2 channel and over in #1 dimed @400v setting get the big fat Ed tone....George is the man and makes the best replicas period. I have to give credit to the Alex Att. also...I could never get that tone in my house or jamming with friend without it.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but can the following be done with the 1200 Series?

100 Watt to 50 Watt

This is a simple and effective way to reduce some of the output power to lower the overall volume of the Super Lead. First, open the back panel of your amp and then remove the outside two power tubes, leaving the two in the center. That’s basically it, but then there is one important thing to do – If you are using one 16 ohm cabinet, you’ll need to "halve" the ohm rating on your head and change it to 8 ohms. If you are using two 16 ohm cabinets, where your normal ohm setting is 8 ohms, you will need to set the head now to a 4 ohm load.

When running at 100 watts with all four tubes in the head, the rule of thumb to remember with impedance settings is that the amplifier’s ohm load must NOT exceed the load of the speaker cabinet. That is, don’t ever run a Super Lead head at 16 ohms into an 8 ohm cabinet as it puts a strain on the head and could damage it. It is quite o.k. however to do the opposite. An 8 ohm (or even a 4 ohm) head setting into a 16 ohm cabinet will just produce less output power but will not damage the head.

I got the amp today and I have to say that not one thing I've read or heard has been exaggerated. This amp smokes! This amp is a masterpiece. I know I have only scratched the surface but so far these tones are blowing me away.

Running it with a '57 Blackburn Mullard in V1 and two Tungsgrams in V2 & V3. Wow, what an amp!

I can only imagine what it's gonna be like when it's broken in!
