99.9% Complete! Metro 2203 100w MV Build
Just started my 2203 Build! I am stoked to get this up and running! I played George's over the weekend, VERY NICE! I have everything mounted, pots, tube sockets & face plates installed, PT wired and heaters done! I'll post some pictures tomorrow. I can't believe there has not been more threads on this amp? Where is all the love for the 2203?

I don't see any carbon comp resistors here, just carbon film.JimiJames wrote:Awesome !

I dont understand why george used metal oxide for the NFB resistor. a CC or a CF will sound much nicer

It seems pretty standard to use a metal oxide here. At least I've seen that lots.Roe wrote:I dont understand why george used metal oxide for the NFB resistor. a CC or a CF will sound much nicer

Also trying to get Carbon Films with long enough leads isn't the easiest of tasks.
So I like purple, okay!!!!!!

Re: 99.9% Complete! Metro 2203 100w MV Build
yes, clearly george is using them because of the long legs. but metal oxide in the signal path does not sound good IMO

You see Just carbon film ? ? ? I think you may need my higher prescription beer goggles.erigm wrote:I don't see any carbon comp resistors here, just carbon film.
I'm asking because alot of people do a build with a goal in mind and not just build a kit. Whether your a Rock, Blues, or Metal player, etc. it should cater to the sound your chasing.
Excluding ± tolerances & just focusing on the board parts ... With the CC's I noticed a loose & bloomy "feel. Good for someone playing the Blues circuit, plugged straight in relying on just that little ole volume knob.
With CF's, what seems to me, Single Notes seem a little tighter - feel faster in the fingers ? Noticeable when playing leads.
The build I'm in the process of doing will have mostly all CF's.
But, like all new builds I won't know until the new build has been "cooked-in"
..yeah see, just like the sig says...
