Tone Controls on 2203 (vs. 1959)

Post by Drew3419 » Wed Dec 23, 2015 4:44 pm

My question is: I know people like to dime most (if not all) of the tone controls on the Non-MV 1959 amps... the thought being that those tone controls are cut-only and that 100% is full tone (rather than 50% being full tone). I know JD Simo likes to dime everything except the Bass (0%) and Presence (60%). Would these same concepts be applicable to the 2203 circuit too, or do those tone controls operate differently? I ask because I have a Metro 2203 and while I hear of people diming everything on the 1959, I never hear of that on the 2203. Is there a reason, be it tone control related, or otherwise? Thanks.

Change tail resistor from tonestack to 47k, for me eq is more useable

Do the tone controls work the same on the 2203 vs. the 1959?

Thanks. I tried "everything on 10" and it didn't really work for me. I have pretty traditional tone control settings... B6.5, M4.5, T4, P6. Preamp on 6.5 and Master on 8. PPIMV on 10, since I'm using an attenuator.

Sounds great.

Ah, you asked if the tone controls work in the same way, and they do.

You did not ask if they sound the same!

The preamps differ in the cascade format and the frequencies selected for *and cut for that matter.

Many Marshalls do not sound good with everything on 10, that is a myth, they nearly all sound different and different amps of same spec will need different EQ.
