the SH5 was made way back and was originally sold as the VAN HALEN model in guitar player magazine until eddie threatened to sue duncan.
Now did that mean eddie had seymour make him this pu and got pissed for him tryin to sell it? or is it simply seymours interpretation of eddies VH I tone and eddie got mad at seymour trying to make a buck off eddie's popularity?
one thing for sure is that it had a early VH connection before any other humbucker that i know off?
the SH5 and dsd share a very similar spec(43 gauge wire wound to 13.7K and a ceramic magnet)
what makes them differ is the dsd has a larger magnet and hex poles.
if you listen to the DSD and SH5 in the clips below you can hear they are very alike in tone,

as you can hear for yourselves the two pu's are practically impossible to tell apart going just by tone

Re: SD SH-5 Custom
What about the Custom Custom (A2) or Custom 5 (A5) I heard there's also one that uses an A8 magnet like those old Ibanez pickups, supposed to be very hot and bright.

Hmm. I don't know man. I hear a pretty significant difference and I favor the SH-5. Clarity and presence is improved IMO. (if all things are equal)EJSLPlexi wrote:the SH5 was made way back and was originally sold as the VAN HALEN model in guitar player magazine until eddie threatened to sue duncan.
