Compariing 15 vintage/reissue marshalls....
SIAP, I thought this was a interesting video of comparing 15 different early Marshall amps. There is a 68 superlead, no serial number mentioned, and several others. After listening to the clips I found that the 69 superlead had more EVH vibe than did the 68, but it both amps sounded great. There was a handwired reissue from 2005 that has some serious crunch, not sure if it had the stock circuit but it sounded pretty good. Have a listen.

Yeah, that's a great vid. I like the first 69 head the best and the 68 50w plexi second. The 68 super lead seemed a little tired. Didn't like the 70's heads much, loved the Kossoff amp and another 67 head in there too. Didn't like the 45/100, many of the the 45/100 builds here sound better in that department.

Excellent !
A newer vid from Johan. Haven't seen it.
The gain shifts throughout the years, and in the tone shelving.
Find a matching cab to that particular head and it's majeek !
Look at this guys backdrop ? !!! Lucky bastage @#$%^&@ !
That 2005 HW SLP sounded least favorable, & yeah, that '68 SLP sounded more Superbass voiced. The '69 sounded like my build... when it worked

Damn that 68 50 watt is the shit, so much compression and squish. Would have been nice to know how much attenuating is happening. Edit: says he knocking it down to -12 db...
What this video shows, in the EVH realm, is that Ed just got a great sounding '68, no secret mods

Here's a rundown of the 68 Plexi, love the way he details the circuit:

WOW! So thats what my amp room would look like if I hit the the lotto
Disney Land for all of us here for sure. All of those amps sounded awesome. Not a dud in the pack.
I dunno if it was the recording or exactly what as its hard to tell for sure.
But 67 era is bright, then 68 seems more sweet and velvety, then 69 is back to bright again. That pretty well corresponds to just the years and not so much the models really. Did anyone else come away with this?
That 68 100w super lead was just cozier sounding.
One thing is for certain that was 15minutes of my life well spent watchin this.

Pretty cool to see the actual components detailed from the schematic.efraser68 wrote:Here's a rundown of the 68 Plexi, love the way he details the circuit:
