Agreed. 2nd statement is ambiguous if read separately from 1st.

But in context (1st statement: Marshall to H&H = obvious slaving) it isn't.
well that's certainly true but if you've ever been interviewed or know of anyone who has been interviewed by the press, context is something they don't particularly care about. the writer was probably not a guitar tech and slaving was not well-known back then. I doubt the interviewer knew the particulars of slaving at the time. even if he did, the fact that the sentence is phrased this way just means we don't know precisely what Rudy meant when he said that. the finer details of someone's setup, unless outlined in detail for that strict purpose, are not easily discerned just from interviews.

i can certainly agree that Rudy may have meant slaving, but he could also be talking about daisy chaining. The fact that we both interpret him differently is proof.

Which makes me wonder: If it was all in "the amp" how did Eddie get his sound when he was using different amps?

Ed lost some of his Marshall heads coming back from Japan in 1978 but he got them back in 1978 eventually.

Seeing that most of Ed's sound is just driving an amp to max and Ed's effects and Ed himself, then Laney's and whatever don't matter that much.

Ed said in an interview that Pan Am lost the amps and it didn't matter that much because he still basically sounded the same with Laney's or whatever because of how he plays.

Of course, he could be slaving through the Laney's and have secret pedals in his pants and ..................

Yeah, he sounded the same thru other amps because his sound was being generated BEFORE it got to the amp. A dimed Music Man will sound like absolute shit.

Ed had EQ's and variacs to alter amps to his way of liking.

The Musicman's and Laney's are probably daisy chained to other Marshalls anyway.

There are still quite a few Marshalls ,but his main Marshall was lost for a while I think along with some of his other regular Marshall's and he replaced them quickly with newer Marshall's (I suppose early 70s Marshalls), Laney's and Musicman's.

The secret pedal?

I don't know really.

That's around where Ed has EQ's in the Japan photos, EQ's near the Echoplexes.
