Signal Chain????

Sounds very good, I have a couple of clips with IRs but they don't sound as close as yours...

It sounds a bit 'dry' or 'hard' to me, like an 800 or something... I think that's what you meant with Variac'd thing... you're missing that chubby open E and the palm mute is a little bit too tight, but hey, it sounds really good!

I had the same problem, couldn't get that chubby sound (think of DTNA intro sound)... Tried many many stuff, and the only thing that worked for me is my GE-10.... I never tried the variac though, but gainwise I don't need one anymore, plenty of gain for VHI now... :evh:

You should try one and defenitelly get some greenbacks or M75 scumbacks...

What part of the Hotplate do you have the Suhr coming from? The line out or a speaker out jack?

Without the speaker in there and some air between it and a mic, its pretty hard to replicate.

To me it just sounds like something is missing (of course!) That being said, the overall structure of the tone is great it just has a non-organic characteristic to it.

I think I understood the whole feed back thing you mentioned. Does the tone change in your final product with the speaker in the chain even though you aren't recording it?

I would bet if you had a more reactive load, it would sound better.

This thread show the, IMHO, drastic difference in the line out sound based on reactive vs resistive loads.

I am also wondering if the line out from the hotplate into the Suhr might be an option? I think the way you have it is the "right" way.
