So I finally picked up a copy of SH's book. I'm almost finished with it. Here's two things I learned about SH that make me think he's a DB:
1.) he has a quote where he said he "wouldn't see his son Andrew for several years" during/after his divorce from Betsy. What???? And you decided to leave your 5 y/o home through Christmas to be with your new girlfriend? DB. At least he was honest. He writes as if most people would understand his situation. As a dad, I simply do not. As a son of divorced parent, I do not.
2.) you made a decision to party in Mexico in spite of Ed and Al telling you Ed Leffler is on his deathbed and you needed to come back to see him one more time before he died. DB
I am glad I got the book. The VH stuff is sometimes painful but between some of SH's DB moves and his supernatural and alien stories, all I gotta say is I'm not sure he's someone I'd believe 100% either. And money....he was very very focused on money. Adding 2500 seats backstage passes was "a goldmine" for the band. Ugh....
Just venting. Between this and the recent BB interview, I think I've finally realized that I just need to bring VH down back to earth again and simply appreciate the music and move on. There are not people I would want to hang with. Truly.

Re: RED
One of my old band buddies was a roadie for VH for years. I could tell you stories about all of them, some of them wonderful, some pretty crappy. I can tell you that you can't single out Sammy as the only DB in the group, regardless of what's been printed, someone read or what people "think" happened.
I played golf with Tiger Woods original golf coach two years ago in a tournament. We sat down to dinner later and one of the guys in the group asked about Tiger, what happened, WTF, etc, etc.
His reply probably applies here as well.
"Money changes people."
Never underestimate what making the almighty buck, greed and the idea of power do to people who used to be normal.

Re: RED
I`m guessing DB is Douche Bag ? I read the book about 4 yrs ago and the part where he left his 5 yr old during Christmas is the only thing I really had a problem with. Sure the kid was with his mom and probably had more presents under the tree that I could ever imagine but that his pathetic to do to a 5 yr old , with the money Sam had/has he could have rented an island to be with the new GF after Christmas. With that said he was honest , he could have easily left that out of the bookbman5150 wrote:So I finally picked up a copy of SH's book. I'm almost finished with it. Re: RED
All good points. Yes; he was honest with his book or so it seems. I totally agree...green is one disease that money can't cure!

Re: RED
In my limited contact with the guys I would say that Ed just came across as 12-14 years old. Nice, but about that level of maturity. I don't mean that as a slam, per se, but as a way to understand the communication. Ed was very nice to me, to be clear about that.
Michael seemed the most mature/adult person. He didn't appear to have a side that would scare me at some level.

Re: RED
The original Sammy bio before 'Red' was even more revealing. If I remember right, he had to sue the guy from one of the Guitar Magazines, to NOT publish it. Large parts of it was circulating on the internet for a while, and it was hard to put it down once you started reading. Everybody including SH came off looking worse than what we are currently privy to... It seemed as if Sammy was good with business decisions though, but not personal ones, and the VH brothers made pretty dumb decisions guided by petty control/paranoia issues across-the-board...
