Whoa....LOVE his live tone so far this tour

I've only listened to YouTube clips but to me, his live tone from the recent shows is absolutely killer. Check out his tone on women in love (I think it was the Portland show). That god awful nasally tone is gone. Instead, its warm and earthy and thick, but also some serious chunk low end remains. It's awesome. Any ideas on what we are hearing? I feel like I hear some chorus, and verb and the cocked wah is gone.

If this is in fact his new old school amp, sign me up! It's killer. I'll take a lunchbox version please!

If you're referencing the clips from Van Halen.net's FB page, then I can understand why! I think Ed's using the 5150IIIS here? Or he might be using that "mystery marshall" style amp he was going on about in his interviews :what: either way, he sounds great lol. Getting excited to see VH on August 13th!

I think its still a little cocked wahish but much better than the last tour. I also think he could dial out some low end too. Sometimes it sounds like he and wolf are competing for some of the same lower hertz frequencies. Can sound a little muddy and undefined on the heavier stuff.

You also have to take into account that these are being recorded by a iphones and the mics aren't great.

Agree. Except for when he gets on the wah during the solo. But yep-this is killer. I think this live tone sounds a lot like the recorded VHII album, which is definitely my fav VH record tone. In fact, I really need to find out more about what they did for this record because I just love it.

I was at the tour opener in Seattle (Auburn). Killer show and the tone was better than the vids. Very full and harmonics screamed. When he did his solo, they had him LOUD. Could feel it in the chest. Was a great experience.

Great tone and playing! Is this the EVHIII S? What about that 'EL34' amp?

It looks like the Stealth on stage but I don't think they would confirm one way or the other.

I understand he took one of the prototypes on the road but was told it was highly doubtful he is using it during the shows.

Sounds much better than before.

Could be that they implemented some of the "EL34-amp" tweaks into his touring heads, which are probably located behind the stacks?
We can't do much but speculate anyway... :)

But definitely a step in the right direction!
Also it seems he's a tad less on autopilot, more lively now.
