Definitely, I miss it too. He could have added just a touch of it at least, that would improve his current tone IMO, which I'm no fan of.chrisom wrote:Though at first I hated it on 1984/5150/OU812, I grew to like the Eventide sound after all those years. I sorta miss it now. 'Me Wise Magic' baby!

I remember seeing his 2 Eventide Harmonizer units from 5150 Studios for sale on eBay. Somebody here put up a thread with a link to the auction. Now THERE'S a couple pieces of historical gear. Too bad Ed couldn't contact the buyer & get them back...

There were more than just two sold. I have one of the H3000s from 5150. It has two of Ed's presets stored on it. The sound is huge. The H3000 really is a magic box. But, I still like the sound of the dual H910s even better than the H3000 or the H949 or the H969 when the H910 is run with one unit shifted up and the other shifted down. It is not glitchy when used in small increments. The H3000 preset of the dual H910 misses the mark on that one.
The Eventide Pitchfactor is not really close in its replication of the H910 but passable for the H3000 if you are not doing a head-to-head.

Hmmm...interesting. I've been experimenting with my H9 and it's Pitchfactor presets. I've always heard that their model was identical to the old 910s and 940s. How far off is the Pitchfactor/H9 from the old harmonizers they are modeling?

Re: New Guitar World mag Eds rig
Okay, I just compared the Boss chorus ensemble to the MXR analog chorus (mine is the stereo pedal) and I was a bit surprised by the results. The MXR sounds smoother and cleaner, and really good on the higher notes, but the Boss held up better under higher gain distortion settings and chords, especially at the settings for Ed listed in the article and in particular on the low mids to lower end. Pretty woman and little guitars sounded very close to the album tones, and I could see where Ed would just use a chorus pedal for live performances and not deal with the hassle of using dual eventides. The MXR is a great pedal especially with cleaner tones but for Ed's sound the Boss seemed to stand out better. Don Felder also uses the Boss pedal in his rig, so it must be a good sounding pedal. Who knew?

The old Boss CE-300 has the famous Roland stereo chorus circuit in a line-level 1-space rack unit. Mark Knopfler used to have several in his rig. I have one myself.

He uses a Shure UR4D Wireless transmitter and receiver and antenna unit. The reference to Line is the Line Taps he uses to take his dry signal to his wet effects (the line tap creates a line level feed off his dry speaker signal) ie the Lexicon PCM70- and two SDE 3000s which are panned left and right through two cabs powered by his H&H V800 Mosfet power Amps.garbeaj wrote:Doesn't mention the wireless unit, but the diagram appears to show a Line 6 wireless.
Theres a lot of info on the Guitar World that is missing.
Heres a correct breakdown:
Evh 2015 Pedal Board
Signal Path
1. Guitar
2. UA 845 Transmitter on guitar
3. Shure Digital Wireless UR4D Receiver in Rack
4. Coleman GT6 Switcher (For switching between wireless packs on different guitars)
Furman P-3600 GT6 ARG Global Voltage Regulator / Power Conditioners
The P-3600 AR G ensures stable 120V power delivery from any input voltage source between 100V to 127V or 208V to 240V. The unit provides connected 120V equipment with stable voltage, power protection, and AC line filtration, ideal for use with 120V A/V gear when travelling to countries with 100V, 220V, 230V, or 240V services.
MXR Buffer
MXR Smart Gate
5.AC In from snake and out to GLAB – GLAB connects pedals which are bypassed on looper.
6.Cable from wireless receiver in rack into Buffer
7.Out of Buffer and into Mute box
8.Out of mute box and into Wah
9.Out of Wah and into Looper
Cathedral – Loop 6 (Remote switch to activate Lexicon in rack)
DDLS – Loop 5 (Remote switch to activate SDE 3000s in rack)
EVH Phase 90 - Loop 4
EVH Flanger - Loop 3
Boss OC3 Super Octave - Loop2
Boss Chorus Ensemble CE5 - Loop 1
10.Out of Looper and into Interface (Guitar path)
11.Out of interface and along snake into Amp head
12.Amp speaker out into Line Tap
13.line tap straight through to Dry Cab
14.line tap line out to Lexicon
15.Lexicon left into left SDE 3000 / Lexicon right into Right SDE 3000
16.Left SDE3000 into Left input on HH V800
17.Right SDE3000 into Right input on HH V800
18.HH V800 left to Wet Cab / Right to Wet Cab
Notes
1.Snake cable made by Lake – 8 core
2.Cables by Mogami.
3.HH V800 Stereo power amps to power AVHs 2x12
4.Cable clips
5.Cable bridge – modified drawer track
6.Strap hook for snake securing
7.50w cable to hook up foot switch lies near GLAB.
8.Board made by A&S Case Company LA 40x25 inches.
9.2 SDE 3000/A back ups and a Lexicon PCM 70 back up
Interface
Rack systems interface box (This is simply a junction box to allow easy set up and take down – connects cables from amp/rack effects etc) It has 4 connections in from rack and 5 connections in from board plus 9v power from GLAB: All audio pass through are isolated.
4 inputs and 5 outputs to board side:
1.From 5150 100W amp input – into switcher – this is buffered (Orange)
2.From Lexicon PCM 70 and SDE 3000 (Yellow) – Two mono’s out from delays in rack - Stereo into interface (combined) / two mono out of interface to switches.
3.Footswitch from board into interface and out to amp (multicolored)
4.50W footswitch (Red) – if Ed needs to hook up to a 50W head. Cable end unused you can see it on the pedalboard near the GLAB
Lexicon Settings
Cathedral PCM70 setting is basically a multiband delay algorithm (double delay) with two delays (V1 and V2) set to 424ms, feedback to 12, 100% wet.
V1 is panned hard left and V2 is panned hard right.
"2.2 V2 DLY 424 MS."
There is no mixer for the effects (no need for a mixer since an always dry signal - with the exception of the pedal board effects in front of the amp - is going straight from the 5150 III head's speaker output to the center 4x12 on stage).
The other speaker output from the 5150 III head is tapped to provide a line level feed to the PCM70 input.
The PCM70 left and right outputs are each individually connected to separate Roland SDE-3000 delays.
Each of the SDE-3000 Mixed outputs go to the H&H V800 inputs, and the H&H outputs go to the wet left and right 4x12 cabs on stage.
SDE 3000 Settings
400ms, 20 (feedback), 35 (output), 00, 00 (no modulation) - Left
800ms, 15 (feedback), 35 (output), 00, 00 - Right
This is Ed's regular setting (not changed according to venue).
For "Women in Love" the settings are:
360ms, 20, 60, 00, 00 - Left
720ms, 20, 60, 00, 00 - Right
The rack effects are not in loops on the six-switch foot controller on stage. Instead, the controller's footswitches engage bypass on/off for the PCM70 and the SDE-3000s.
Ed has six 5150 III heads on the road with him, but he plays through only one head. The others are backups.
Mute box
Used to hook up a cable which is coiled up near his pedal board in case wireless packs in.
Ac In Power box
120V AC In Elite Core PC14-AM-6 Neutrik Powercon to Edison male power cable (locking) connects to RAPCO Neutrik Powercon power in blue connector in box, and IEC 120V cable out to power GLAB. This is just a hook up point to bring power from wherever.
G-lab PB-1
Connected to AC out of AC box connects 9 or 18v DC power to pedals, interface, looper and buffer.
Buffer
Friedman buffer / Tone Saver by RJM (Wireless cable from shure transmitter in rack in snake into buffer) this maintains strong clear signal along 100 ft snake from rack/amp to board. Used to use AXESS BS-2 buffer but these are discontinued.

This is definitely inside info.. This took a lot of time to write. This is your 1st post and what a contribution! Thank you so much for all of this who ever you are. I suspect from inside the EVH camp.

Re: New Guitar World mag Eds rig
I had the same problem with in ear monitors when playing live and it sounded just like he describes it, having 2 cabs in your ears. I solved it by using a condenser mic for ambience placed away from the cabs. Once I got it right, I preferred my in ears. I also was able to eq my sound of my amps from the monitor mixer.
