5150 III 1x12 combo or other combo

Need a 1x12 combo -- lugging a 4x12 and head around just doesn't work anymore, and while I prefer a 2x12 it's too heavy.

Interested in the 5150 III 1x12, in part because of speaker cab (enclosed, built well). I like the power scaling, cleanup with vol knob, sounds EVH but still these amps sound a little shrill/harsh/flat to me vs EL34 amps. Not sure why, just my ears. Still, this demo with Ed tunes sounds pretty good:

Also in the mix is one of the newer DSL 40w Marshalls, much cheaper too.

Anyone have any opinions on the above or another 1x12 amp? Head and cab not an option unfortunately, and need some volume -- I just can't dig the 15-watters. Looking for brown-ish, upper mids that do not sound shrill, and some punch -- basically a JCM 800-ish amp in a box. Don't care really about channel switching, will use the geetar vol knob.

Any thoughts/advice appreciated.

Peavey 6505+ 1x12 combo. Or the Marshall you mentioned. I've got the 5150 III 2x12 combo and love it! Have you considered the 5150 III 50 watt head and 2x12 cab? Lighter and portable. They make a matching 1x12 too. I wanted the power scaling so I got the combo. I like the speakers in it better too. But it's a heavy beast. I was about to buy the DSL-100 head and still want one. So they sound great too. Channel switching isn't a priority then I'd try the Peavey. See if you like it. The rhythym channel with the gain cranked is its secret weapon. And it's cheaper than the EVH. Actually the rhythym channel in the Peavey is a great rock tone period. Just gotta remember the 5150/6505 series was designed by Ed and was made to be played loud. That's when they sound best. Like probably every tube amp. But especially these. Some of the fizziness goes away.

How much you willing to spend? Bray's making 1x12 4550 Deluxe combos now with a scumback m55 12" speaker built in. I'm waiting for mine to be completed. It's gonna be nuts!

Tx guys. I'd buy the Bray in a flat second if I had a spare $2K. The 6505/5150 is too buzzy bees for me at lower vols.

Have you considered the old JCM 800 2204 1x12 combos? They're pretty solid, plus when you get it, you could easily put in a better speaker (like a scumback 60w type or creamback celestion) and close off the back of the combo for a tighter, more focused sound.

yea the 4010 is great as is the 4210. The DSL40C is the modern.

The original G1265 is best voiced for that amp. Jim's Scummy is a good alternative as is the new Creamback.

Lol okay I looked at some pics of the 4010 and it's a good equal part closed and open. My bad XD. The vintage modern combos are also great if you're looking for that plexi "squish"!

How about the EVH lbx 15 watt head and a one 12" cab?
that would sound better than most 1x12 combo's.
that little LBX is a real ass kicker from all the clips i have heard plus you could choose whatever speaker you like
