This might be a tough question to answer because there is probably no fixed answer.
I just installed a Seymour Duncan humbucker pickup in the bridge position of my Wolfgang guitar and the distance is 0.5 mm from the pickup to the bottom E string (when pushing down on the last fret). Is this too close? What's the ideal distance for the bridge pickup to the strings on any EVH guitar, if there is one?
Thanks.

I put a nickel on top of the pickup press the last fret down and that's how I do mine. A nickel is 1.95mm thick.

Thanks.
I made an error in posting my measurement in my initial post. I am measuring 5.0 mm (0.5 cm) for the distance from bridge pickup to bottom E string when holding the last fret down.

You can also use your ears. If it too far...it sounds weak...too close and you lose fidelity.

It's picking up every single nuance. Not sure if this is the type of pickup I am using (Seymour Duncan SH-14 Custom 5) or the proximity of the bridge pickup to the strings.guitar007 wrote:You can also use your ears. If it too far...it sounds weak...too close and you lose fidelity.

Both factors play a role. In general, lead runs should sound articulate and clear and your chords should sound balanced in tone and volume...bass notes on the low E should not be louder that treble notes on the high E. But...those are just guidelines. You do what sounds right to you.

On my Wolf I have 1.9 mm from the top of pole piece to the bottom of the string. (without pressing the string at all)
