NOS Caps: What's a Fair Price?

Post by guitar007 » Tue May 01, 2007 4:14 pm

I'm interested in getting Mullards:

Seven 0.022UF @ 400v
Four 0.1UF @ 400v
Four 0.68UF @ 160v

What's a fair price & where's the place to get them?

Seven 0.022UF @ 400v typically $20 ea
Four 0.1UF @ 400v no more than $15 ea
Four 0.68UF @ 160v no more than $15 ea

Yeah, the 0.1uFs are still easy to get for easy money. I'm not sure about the 0.6uFs though.

Im building a 68 bare bones and I would like to use mustards. What do you think of this deal. Is it worth the price to get mustard caps compared to sozo? ebay mustard cap deal some used? http://cgi.ebay.com/Mullard-Mustard-Cap ... 294wt_1167" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The problem with those grab bag deals is that maybe you get all the values you need for your amp, but maybe not.
He says approx 130 pcs. It wouldn't be that hard to count them and give a real number.

You may end up with a bunch that are odd values not used in Marshall circuits.

That had a lot of bids. While the ending price isn't bad for that amount of mustards, I would be worried that I end up with a bunch I can't use.

Sorry my scam alert always goes up on these types of auctions.
Tom

Don't let that smoke out!

Depends on what you consider fair. If the ends justify the means.......priceless!, in the real world paying $20 apiece for some old dusty, moisture penetrated, potentially leaky, rusty leaded caps, and a good lubing of good ol' fashioned expeller pressed diamond back...... I would say be weary, and inspect before you buy. If eveything lives up to your expectations tone wise, than I say it was money well spent.

speaking of which I just scored some NOS 1uf, and .47uf film and foil mallory PVC's (the large maroon colored ones, before they changed to the orange epoxy coating in the '70's, and then discontinued them all together recently) for .50 cents a piece, I haven't used them yet, but the price I paid was, to me, at least worth the historical value

I have enough left for two more amps - then I have definitely finished (I think I said that before  ) as I am not buying any more at that price

Don't pay more than $20 for a .022uf 400v mustard. Be patient and wait 'till they come up at a decent $$$.

There are a lot of people selling at inflated $$$.
