Top hat diode orientation

Post by gtomax » Tue Apr 29, 2008 12:19 am

Just to double check, on the metal case top hat diode, the negative side points towards the bias resistor, not the tubes right? I.E. the flat disc part towards the tubes, round hat part towards the resistor?

In the case of the image below, the resistor would be to the left and the lead on the right would go to the bias caps?

The Hat goes toward the tube side, round to the bias resistor.
May the good Lord take a liking to you!

Yes these diodes are the OPPOSITE orientation to the original Mullard diodes - sensible to check 8)

Yes watch out! The newer ones are backwards of the old ones. They are clearly marked. Here's mine installed in my 2204:

It's hard to say because all of my builds are so different. I will say that every time I play live, somebody says they love the sound of my amp and they want me to build them one! I am not sure if you can get all of the Riken values needed for a complete build anymore.

Diodes are diodes, really. Some will disagree but it'd be hard to tell the difference. Put in what you think looks coolest.
