Newbie question: 2203 PTP Board Hi gain

Post by killertone » Thu Jan 26, 2006 3:25 pm

Hey guys,

I am ready to pull the trigger on a PTP 2203 board for my '77 JMP and I was wondering how easy/difficult it is to alter the board to high gain while I am populating the board. I like the sound of the amp now, just don't wanna run a TS in front anymore. Anybody have good easy to understand schematics? I know this has probably been covered a million times so sorry in advance for that. Thanks!

I also have a 1977 2203. It had some gain mods already when I got it. I normally wouldnt recomend hacking up an original amp but the mod sounds great on mine. It has an extra preamp tube installed for an extra gain stage and there is a 2nd master volume pot installed on the front panel which seams to add gain and sustain. It also allows a cranked up sound at low volume levels even more so then with regular master volume. These were popular mods in the 80s and there are plenty of sites on the net for details on how to perform the mod. I think the mod is called the jose mod but Custom audio electronics and many other places can perform it for you if you would want to alter your amp to this extent.
