HI Lawrence, it really depends on your confidence in yourself to build by following the instructions.
A lot of pepople start with 18 watt kits like Graydon Stuckey sells over at http://www.18watt.com
Not too complicated and great way to get your soldering skills up to par.

OTOH I've had complete beginners assemble my kits too. Some needed lot's of tech support and others have had no trouble at all.

What ever you ultimately decide, you should get a copy of my CD. There's lots of amp building tips on it. Email me your address and I'll mail you one.

Thanks George,

I think I'll have a go at one of your kits because I think I can handle it, now all I've got to do is save the money.

I'll e-mail you my address but I do live in the UK so if it's a problem don't worry.

Shouldn't be a problem. Just gotta wire the power tranny to a different wire on the tranny to run it on UK power. Other than that, I've built 5 of his kits so far with no problems(then again I don't need the directions either LOL)

Hi George,

Thanks for the CD, now I have a rough idea of what it will be like.

I'll probably get it in a few months (when I've saved up enough).

By the way Jon, where did you get the plexi panel made for your
spinal tap plexi?

Thanks,

Lawrence

I had George's panel guy custom make them. You can get them from me though.

Email me at flemingmras@comcast.net

Hi guys,
Jon, how much would one of those panels be?

Also, George how much would one of your plexi kits cost (the one with the Heyboer transformers) with a purple head case?

Oh yeah, and how hard would it be to install the JCM900 Valve fail mod?

Thanks,

Lawrence

Lawrence,

I just recieved George's cd as well, and there's a lot of cool info on it.
Reading the kit building instructions made my knee's buckle a bit, so I'm gonna have to go over to Jon's place and see some of this stuff first hand.
Rumor has it that George and Jon can do this stuff in their sleep.
Looks like a fun challenge for an electronic's Moron like myself. :?

I sell my panels for the same price that George does. I have both the Spinal Tap and the rear panels that have the labeling for the JCM900 Valve Fail circuit. It's a very simple circuit and I can type up some detailed instructions for how to do this. I can also send you the parts for the mod itself. But I can sell you both the front and rear panels for $60.

Shoot me an email at flemingmras@comcast.net and I can discuss it more in detail.

BTW Fritz on the next amp build we'll do it at your place so you can watch me do it and I"ll show you how simple it is. Like I said here so many times I don't even have to look at the schematic to build these things cause I've been doing it for so long.

Jon,
Sounds cool. Just have to let me no in advance what to prep.
Kitchen table with good lighting?
Or basement workbench that's loaded with crap!

Kitchen table would work best. However I've done one of these things with it sitting in my lap before. That's the way I built Spinal Tap #1!

Kitchen table it is.

We'll leave your lap for some hot chicks at your next gig. :D

I'll be sure to have an ample supply of adult beverages, and stuff for the grill.
Interesting tidbit, is hearing about amp builders calling them "homebrews".
I actually "Homebrew" beer from scratch. That will be available for sampling. 8)

You brew your own beer???!!!!

I'll come over and build that thing for you! I'm a pushover for a quality microbrew. Or in this case a quantum brew.

I wish I had a spare evening to indulge in high quality beer more often. Really a spare evening at all. But I would make time for a good home brew.

Or for the debut of Guns N Roses behind the music. This Wednesday- BTW.

George,
Yep, I started almost 10 years ago. With a nickname like Fritz, it was only a matter of time. I love good quality Micro's and imports.
I've honestly done more batches and styles than I can possibly remember.

I may take you up on that building proposition!
Or at least some over the shoulder supervision, since you'll have a mug in each hand. 8)

When I buy my kit I'll bring you up a sample of something.
Right now I've got an IPA and a Belgian Trappist Ale (9%) kegged.

G n'R Wednesday. That should be interesting.

Fritz
