First time building, what do i need?

Post by Aaron0602 » Sun Jul 18, 2004 2:42 pm

Hey guys, I just ordered a JTM45 board from george, and I have zero electronics experience (I do have some experienced friends helping out, don't worry). I was just wondering if you guys could give me a complete list of supplies that I'll need for building the board/amp kit (not George's kit, it's a Marsh JTM45 212). Will I be ok with a regular ol' soldering iron, the kind that runs for 15 bucks and just plugs in? How about solder? Silver or lead? What else will I need? Thanks a lot,

Aaron

Hey Aaron, you're going to need some basic hand tools (screwdrivers, needlenose pliers, diagonal cutters) and a multi meter for voltage and resistance readings. Not to mention a soldering iron, not more than 40 watts. Ideally 30 watts.

And a work place where you can take your time and spread things out a little bit.

It might help if your computer is close by as well. That way you won't have to print each page.

thanks george. Do you recommend silver solder or 60/40? And also, did you manage to drill the holes for the mojo chassis in my jtm45 board, or did you ship it undrilled?

Some lead benders are nice too. They're really cheap at mouser.com and make the resistor spacing nice and tidy.

I also have some forceps that are REALLY nice for clamping and bending etc,.

Good call, Gnugear. I didn't think about a lead bender.

I didn't drill the board for any mounting holes. You'll see when you get it that are different ways for you to mount it. I thought I'd let you decide which you prefer.
