It gives the amp a little bit of cocked wah sound.

Here is some discussion about the shield trick:

I used this layout to wire the shield trick into my amp:

I guess the shield trick is not safe so I might not do it afterall.

Modding to S.I.R #36 specs:

I put the shield trick back again and took off the 1 ohm resistors from the powertube sockets. Now the bias test jacks are working fine.

I did the #36 mod today and ran a quick test but it did not sound right yet. Some components from the #34 mod were still left in the circuit. I might also have totally wrong pre-amp tubes installed. I am sure this will be a great sounding amp. Some of the amp noise was reduced too which is great. I am happy that I got the mod done this weekend and I can not wait to work on the amp again!

Sorry Prowler, I missed your reply to the shielded wire trick last week. I'll take a look and give it a try in the next week or so when time allows. Thanks for the link!

Is it normal that when I throw the stand-by switch to off position while the strings are still ringing the sound fades away and then comes back again when I throw the power switch to off position? After about three seconds the sound is gone and the amp shuts down.

I am also a bit worried about the buzz when I am not touching the strings. The buzz got louder after I installed the 1n bright caps to the gain pots. Even when I touch the strings the buzz is there but it is not so loud.

The sound fading in and out is normal. It is simply the filter caps discharging after you throw the switch and is nothing to worry about. Both of my amps do exactly the same thing after hitting standby and power switches. The buzz you are hearing may just be caused by the higher gain nature of the amp. Adding the bright caps will also increase this effect. Have you tried different guitars to see if one is worst than the other?

Phew! I tought that there was something seriously wrong with the amp and was pretty much afraid of playing it. Thanks for clearing that up that it is normal to have noises like that. Maybe the noises go away when I put the foil that came with the kit to the bottom and the chassis into the head cabinet. I only have one guitar that propably has been sloppily wired by the previous owner. Danman have you been playing or modding your #34? I wish I had done more experimenting with the bright cap with my #34. I have been modding my #36 a couple of days now and I can not seem to find the sound.

I have not had the chance to play it much after converting it to the AFD layout. I tend to play the 1986 most often but lately work has kept me so busy that I can't find the time for either.

Hi guys! It has been awhile since I have written on this forum. Right now I feel that I have to return to the original spec with the PPIMV installed. Thank you all for the tips and guidance you have given me.
