67ish Super

So this board material is a fabric laminate like Tuffnol. It has the same quality's but is made by a different manufacturer. It's quite a course weave so it's like Whale grade.

Not quite sure if you can get the phenolic or fabric board in the States but in the UK it's still a popular manufacturing material.

If you want to get some just have a look on the bay. I've bought it from different sellers, one was bunaday another was plastichotspot.
Edit; Had to go though my emails to find it. The material is SRBF2 from a different manufacturer than Tuffnol and I got it from Davis Industrial Plastics Ltd on eBay.

To be honest it's probably best to just contact a load of sellers and let them know what your after. You tend to find getting the colour to your liking is the hardest part.

The Whale grade tends to look a bit more interesting because of the course weave to the fabric.
It does get darker with age and every batch is a one off so it's quite interesting stuff to deal with. Go for 3mm thickness.

I found the best way to cut it was to set up a jig from a length of angle trim that I clamped to a workmate/ bench. This gave me a dead straight edge so I could make the cut with a jigsaw with a metal blade.

I found using a medium speed say 3,5 worked best.
Biggest thing to watch out for is scratching the board and clean cuts no chipped edges. My jigsaw has a plastic boot to help minimise scratching.

I then sand the edges with a block starting with say 240grit and finnish it with 600.

I think finishing it like this is important because when you cut it the fabric is exposed and I think this would likely soak up moisture over time. When you sand it you can't really see the fabric any more.

Edit; I should probably explain the different material grades for any one not familiar.

So there is phenolic resin board (paxolin) which is a paper resin board. Great electrical insulation wise may be slightly susceptible to absorbing moisture over time but I wouldn't let that put you off. Only thing it is easily chipped so it requires a bit of patience.

Then there is (Tuffnol) fabric resin board that is mechanically stronger than paxolin. It has three grades,
Carp is the finest and the best electrically. The finer weave of fabric is less susceptible to absorbing moisture.

Whale grade is a course weave but so far I like it best for it's appearance. It's a lot more interesting to look at and reminded me of some of those 69 boards that you can see the fabric texture.

Thanks to neikeel and Roe for all the info they shared for this build. I really couldn't do it with out the technical support.

So after a bit of deliberation I decided to go with 2.2k 10watt wire wound resistors on the screens.
I picked these up off eBay and in the pics I thought I was getting Welwyns but these are different. They have made in Paignton England stamped on them which i thought was pretty cool since i used to live down that way years ago.

They certainly look pretty groovy anyway.

Those screen resistors are huge but they look good with the 1 watt Piher's.

I had to cut a hole in the chassis to make way for the lay down P.T. I protected the metal with gold hammerite paint.

You can just make out the JMP logo I had reverse engraved at Mojotone, face plates are from Valvestorm.

Thanks again to Roe and neikeel i settled on 32/32uf preamp, 2x 16/16uf screens, 2x 50/50uf mains and 32/32uf on the phase inverter for filtering. Cans are ARS.

I don't really have any experience with NOS cans but I built a 69 super a few years back and went with F&T, I later changed the caps for ARS and I think they are much better.

I wouldn't have thought it would make that much difference but they sound more open and let the amp breath better.

Reverse engraved on the back. Originally I was going for a Superbass but I think it's more like a late 67 now.

500pf lemco on the mixer and 270pf RS on the tone stack.

At first I had 270k Iskra's on the mixer but changed my mind to 470k Piher's.
