210watt Plexi

Post by metjallica1 » Wed Dec 22, 2004 8:37 pm

Hello everyone. I would just like to say that I am VERY PLEASED with my amp project from MetoAmp. If nobody minds, I would like to tell the story bedhind the awesome amp. This amp started out as a replica Marshall Plexi with a red tolex case. It was the standard PTP Plexi that MetroAmp sales, with all the fixings plus some suggestions from George. After getting all the parts through several attempts and having to wait for the output tranny that was on back order, I was finally on my way to building my dream amp. After a couple days of no sleep, I had the amp wired and was ready to test it. At the time I didn't know that there was something wrong, and when I turned it on, nothing. There was no power at all. So, I got in touch with Terry at the Amp Doctor in Nashville, TN and he took a look at it. There were a couple of crossed wires and some bad connections, so he suggested that I take it a part and clean it up. He gave me some pointers, and I was back to work. A few days later it was finished again, and I was ready to fire it up. This time I had power, but I couldn't bias it, or get it to make a sound. I was stumped at this point. So I called Terry again, and he had me take it apart again and send it to him. He thought there was something major wrong with it, so he wanted to check everything. After two weeks of the amp being gone, Terry called and said after replacing a few little things here and there, he had it working. Come to find out, the output tranny was the wrong one and this amp was pushing close to 210watts. According to him and what he wrote on the ticket, clean will run up to 7 and it is pushing 120w, peak is running 180w. With everything at 10 and using both the high and low gain inputs together, it is right at 210w. Let me tell you, this amp screams. I cannot play it above 1.5 on the highgain volume knob and .5 and the low gain volume knob. I am now looking at getting a Hot Plate so I can get that Marshall crunch out of it. I cranked it once, and it was the sweetest crunch I have ever heard. I love this amp, and I am greatful to George and MetroAmp for everything they did for me.

Beware that a hotplate won't be able to handle 210watts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maximum is 185watts RMS!!
