Cozy Powell is one of a rare handful of musicians who were truly masters of their craft,a lot of us like going fast and living on the wild side, maybe too much, but are not lucky, but our destiny's are predetermined and Cozy had done it all ,and another second happens and it's all over.
Technically with Carmine Appice and Ian Paice,Mitch Mitchell,Billy Cobham,Tony Thompson,Cozy dosen't give up anything to any of them,he was very versatile as well, also Bonzo, whom I did not mention in that list.
I think the clip featuring the young drummers competition from British tv,showed the more personal side of Cozy as he picked the winner of the competition, that must have been so cool for that kid!
All future drummers have a great example to live up to.

I'd have to add to the list : Terry Bozzio, and Keith Moon.
This assumes "Rock and Roll drummers"....but things don't always lend themselves to labels well in music.
"Rock and Roll, or plain old > Rock < " encompasses such diverse styles of music...Jazz,Blues,Reggae,even 'Big Band', the influences are multiple;and many.
I feel very fortunate to have lived through the "Explosion" in music, starting in the early '60's through the mid - to - late '70's....what power and experimentation happened through those years!
Yeah, there's still great music being made today, but the "Age of Rock" turned the world upside down!
I hope it comes back: "If you listen to the wind, you can still hear him play" .
