I listen to and love all the guys you just mentioned. I knew that Jeff and Jimi cite Django as the greatest, but I did not know that Eric and Pagey were influenced by him. To this day, if I have to pick a "greatest guitar player", I'd say Django too. Not only for his staggering improv skills, and melodic sensiblities, but also for the fact that he did what he did using only two fingers the majority of the time. (For those that don't know, Django's hand was badly burnt in a caravan fire, which left him with full use of only two fingers - the first and second. The third and fourth were used, but about all they could do is press down on a nearby note since they could not extend) And talk about a guy that could shred!!!! Nobody, even the Yngwies and Vai's even come close!!!
When you think of it that way, it's almost as though any other "guitar hero" using more than two fingers is cheating!!! LOL!
Fuck it.

But if you listen to the interviews of Vito... he says that he did hurt his hand... his father was ill and only Vito and his mother took care of him till the end... That in his mind it's White Lion or nothing ... and the fact that Mike Tramp (singer) is still touring with other musicians under names such as Tramp's White Lion is hurting Vito... He feels that he cannot reunite with Mike until those incarnations of the band are over and dead... otherwise Vito will be stepping into someone elses shoes...
Kinda feel sorry for the guy... he seems fragile... not a tough rockstar (
