Expensive Greenlees

Post by Billy Batz » Mon Apr 18, 2005 9:15 pm

I took a plunge today and picked up one of those $60 greenlee stepper bits. Wow am I glad I did. I dont want to shell out hundreds for hole punching kits but the stepper actually does a great job. Very clean. Just using the low gear on my older cordless drill it cut a 7/8" hole pretty neat in steel. Maybe only a cheap simple reamer to clean it out quickly would make it real nice and smooth and Id say about 97% as nice as a punch. I shouldve waited and got one for $30 on evilbay but what the hell.

I've tried a few different brands of step bits and the cheapies seem to work well enough. But after buying some knock out punches, I can't bear the thought of messing with those bits. I've found many on Ebay on the cheap.

When I do have to use the bits, I like to ream the edges afterwards with one of these. Found at local hardware or contractor supply stores. Bits are replaceable.

I'm just lucky. My pops hasn't got loads of the Greenlee cutter/punches, but he had just the right sizes for the JJ/LCR/F&T cap cans and for tube sockets. :D

And it's not even in my bathroom! Or my grandmother's bathroom! IT'S IN MY DINING ROOM! But it's just a table top. How could I pass up this cheesy dinette set for $50.00? There's not a spot of rust on the chrome and the vinyl is perfect. Aqua isn't my favorite, but then again I'm the kind of guy that likes yellow walls.

HEY!! I like my yellow kitchen -- so much so that my wife and I painted the whole upper story of our house that yellow with the same white trim.
