I bought an Epiphone Les Paul Standard..

Post by Klark » Sat Feb 05, 2005 1:12 am

Yep, I couldn't resist. I walked into GC and there was a guy trading in his Epiphone. Brand new condition, amber burst, brand new Seymour Duncan 59's in the neck & bridge, pro setup after the pickups were installed, and a nice SKB fitted hardshell case. He evidently needed cash bad so GC gave him a check for $300. Right then I asked how much I have to pay for it. They clicked a few keys on their computer and replied with "$392 out the door", to which I replied "SOLD!". Unfortunately my digital camera was smashed last week so I can't post any pics, but I'll tell ya, it's pretty damn sweet. I'm mainly a strat guy but I've been wanting a les paul style guitar...without the ridiculous price. This Epi fits that spot nicely. Inexpensive, sounds awesome, and looks just freakin' wicked.

Any of you guys have an Epi Les Paul? What do you think compared to a real Les Paul ??

EDIT: Here's a pic I found that looks exactly like the one I just bought.

Mine is the one with a Bigsby clone (Vibratone), black..it's a great guitar and I think with a good setup it could be awesome..

and here comes the but...

I'm hooked on Fenders now..I bought a Vista series Squire Venus and it's one of the best guitars I've ever played..bound neck, wide fingerboard like a Paul, but that..I know..the bolt on Fender feel just gets me now..

so I'm looking to replace it with a Fender!

glad to be here..

I hear that. I've been playing my EVH guitars for a while now so I'm ofcourse stuck on the Fender scale stuff. With that said, I'm actually thinking of selling this Epiphone Les Paul and building a new Warmoth Les Paul. Just about everyone who has built one says they sound the same but believe it or not, have lots more sustain than their actual Gibsons. Having my favorite frets, nut width, neck shape/profile, and a bare wood neck on a Les Paul is going to be pretty schweet.... I hope.

Why didnt you ask the guy to sell it to you instead? "Ill give you $310 for that!!!" I caught a guy selling a bunch of pedals one time, I noticed he was pissed and I started talking to him and they were giving him shit because he had all these nice mint pedals that they were giving him like $15 a peice for and you know theyd turn around and sell them for like $80 so I started talking to him and it happened that he'd rather sell them to me for that price then GC. I got a DD3, an OC2 and an SD2 for $50. Im not a big boss fan and I wouldnt have bought them for myself but hell thats a deal so I grabbed em. They were in perfect condition with all the boxes and stuff. The DD3 is still around, the OC2 I used as an Xmass present and the SD2 actually became very useful to me at home.

Have you checked out the ESP/ Edwards guitars on eBay? Good stuff.
