Transient Response
What is it? What effect does it have on guitar tone?
If I ever think I want to get married, I'll find a woman I don't like and buy her a house.

If you drive your amp with square wave, you can see on oscilloscope behaviour of your amp.
First, if your amp acts as low pass filter (wanted behaviour for audio amp) or if it acts as high pass filter (not good amp for audio).
Second, you can observe overshots and if the amp have tends to oscillate.
And third, you can see amp's slew rate. How fast the output signal gets full amplitude from the time, you driven the amp.
Moreover, you can see on the waveform if the amp amplify all frequencies with the same gain. For example, if amp dont amplify middle frequencies too much opposite to low and high frequencies. Or if the amp gain is suitable in middle frequencies. You can also observe phase distortion on waveforms, which is very annoying problem and hard to handle.
